Going Beyond The Word

Some people claim that what we say and do is from God.  God know us — from the number of days we are to live, to the path we are to walk he has set it all out.

Others say that if we truly love and respect God, Then we will seek to do nothing beyond the boundaries which he has set for us — we will choose to stay within those boundaries.

It is important for the Christian to know that we are free — free to walk with God or separate from God.  But if God has called us, we will not want to stray beyond the path he has set us upon.

“I would not be able to go beyond the word of the Lord, to do either good or bad of my own will; what the Lord speaks , that will I speak” —Numbers 24:13

Do What Is Right

The forces which drive the secular world should find no place among the motives that structure a Christian.  Yet, in the church, much worldly policy, mundane caution, and temporal wisdom exist.  Attitude and perspectives are shaped according to what works in society or in business.

The only influence to find a home in the church should be that which God desires.  To do what is right, to follow duty, and to love what is just in God’s way of life.

“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.”  —Micah 6:8

Is God Happy

A lot of people are concerned with whether other people are happy with them or not.  This comes out in questions like, “Is your father happy with you?” or “I sure hope my aunt is happy I did this.”  Most of the time the purpose for such feelings is to assure self that another person’s approval is being received.  In other words, approval and fulfillment are found through the blessings of others.

This ultimately leads to the question of whether God is happy with us.  But in truth, we already know the answer before we ask.  It is not our job to make God happy, but rather to simply obey.  If we follow God’s laws, and walk humbly with him, will he not be happy?  Yet, whether or not God is happy is really a secondary point.  God created us, and he will do with us as he pleases.  God is just, and he will judge accordingly and do what is right.
